Common Questions

Answers to common questions about how Saa3a handles filings, renewals, and compliance deadlines for your fleet.

What is the MCS-150 and when is it due?

The MCS-150 (Motor Carrier Identification Report) updates your USDOT record. Every motor carrier must file a biennial update every two years, even if nothing has changed. Your filing month is determined by the last digit of your USDOT number (1 = January through 0 = October). Missing your update can result in USDOT deactivation and civil penalties of up to $1,000 per day, capped at $10,000. Saa3a tracks your specific deadline automatically and files on your behalf.

What happens if I miss my UCR renewal?

UCR (Unified Carrier Registration) is a federally mandated annual registration due by December 31. Missing it exposes you to roadside out-of-service orders, state fines from $100 to $5,000, and increased inspection frequency. The UCR fee for 6–20 vehicles is $276 per year. Saa3a tracks your deadline and sends alerts at 30, 14, and 7 days before it expires.

How does Saa3a handle IFTA quarterly filings?

IFTA requires quarterly fuel tax reports for carriers operating in two or more jurisdictions. Deadlines are Q1 April 30, Q2 July 31, Q3 October 31, and Q4 January 31. Missing a deadline triggers penalties of $50 or 10% of delinquent taxes, whichever is greater. All Saa3a plans include IFTA quarterly filing support.

What is BOC-3 and why do I need it?

BOC-3 (Designation of Agents for Service of Process) is required for any carrier with FMCSA operating authority. Without a current BOC-3 filing, FMCSA will not grant or maintain your authority. Operating without valid authority can result in penalties of up to $10,000 per violation. Saa3a files and maintains your BOC-3 as part of every annual plan.

What happens during a DOT compliance audit?

A DOT compliance review examines 11 areas of your operation. Prepared fleets typically complete a review in 3 to 5 days. Unprepared fleets face extended reviews and potentially an Unsatisfactory safety rating, risking loss of operating authority. Growth 15–19 includes a dedicated annual audit-prep review.
